Moin, dear runners,
registration for the third North Sea Ultra on 10 May 2025, on Germany’s most beautiful island, is now open. After two successful years, we were delighted to welcome you back to this special event on Sylt in 2025. Whether you took on the 111 km adventure as a solo runner or joined a team with other Sylt enthusiasts, this race offered a unique challenge in an impressive landscape.
Your Adventure around Sylt
In 2025, three exciting race formats were again available:
- 111 km ultramarathon – an epic race taking you all the way around the island.
- 2-person relay – perfect for two runners sharing the course:
- Leg 1: 37.7 km (start to aid station 5)
- Leg 2: 74.0 km (aid station 5 to finish)
- 3-person relay – the ideal team option in three legs:
- Leg 1: 37.7 km (start to aid station 5)
- Leg 2: 33.5 km (aid station 5 to aid station 9)
- Leg 3: 40.5 km (aid station 9 to finish)
Asymmetric Relay Format
The special feature of North Sea Ultra relays is their asymmetric division into legs. The sections are deliberately unequal in length, allowing runners of different ability levels to take part together. Whether you were already used to long distances or just entering the world of ultras, the relay options offered a gradual way into the challenge.
Experience Sylt Like Never Before
North Sea Ultra gives runners the opportunity to experience Sylt’s unique landscape in all its facets. From the calm start at sunrise to demanding running along the coastline, every kilometre offers new impressions and unforgettable moments. The combination of solitude on the long stretches and solidarity among participants makes the race so special.
Registration
Alongside the 111 km ultramarathon, relay options made the race accessible to teams. During registration, runners could also book optional extras such as shirts, crew tickets and access to the Pasta Party. There was also an option to donate to coastal protection. North Sea Ultra doubled every euro donated, in the hope of preserving the island’s unique nature for runners for longer.
Become Part of Our Community
In the following weeks, we introduced participants from earlier years on social media and on the blog. Their stories about motivation and race experiences offered inspiring insights into the world of North Sea Ultra.
Do you know someone who would like to take on this challenge? Spread the word. The relay options in particular offered a great opportunity to introduce friends and acquaintances to this unique experience.
The start was on 10 May 2025 – we looked forward to welcoming everyone to the start line at the Sturmhaube.
