Julia, German champion in 24-hour running and winner of the North Sea Ultra 2024, began her running career in 2013. Her route to ultramarathons included many successes at national championships, but the 111 km ultramarathon on Sylt was a completely new challenge.
The North Sea Ultra 2024 – unique for Julia
“I had never done a trail race before,” says Julia, who mainly trains on flat, repetitive routes such as the short laps used at the German 24-hour championships. The Sylt ultra presented her with new challenges. “The route length fitted perfectly into my training plan, but a landscape race was completely different from anything I had experienced before.”
Julia was particularly thrilled by the island’s beauty. “I did not know Sylt before, but it was so beautiful that I took a holiday immediately after the race.” The varied landscape, the weather and the cheerful atmosphere at the aid stations made the 111 km race unforgettable.
Preparing for the Sylt ultramarathon
“The route was the longest I had ever run,” Julia says. She trains primarily by heart rate. With her coach by her side and the great support on the course, she managed to win the North Sea Ultra 2024. “The atmosphere and the landscape on Sylt motivated me to give everything.”

Julia would also be back in 2025 when the North Sea Ultra started on 10 May 2025. The 111 km ultramarathon began in Kampen and went once around the island of Sylt. “I will definitely come back and bring my team!” If you are looking for a new challenge, join in!
